Western Masuria, due to its geographical location, historical and cultural traditions and tourist attractions, refers to administrative territories of what is now Powiat Ostródzki (Ostróda County) as well as selected communes located in the counties of Ilawa, Olsztyn and Elblag. The region covers a considerable area of Pojezierze Ilawskie (Ilawa Lakeland), a range of hills called Garb Lubawski (The Hump of Lubawa) and the southern part of Pojezierze Olsztyńskie (Olsztyn Lakeland). The area is extremely attractive for tourists – it's the ideal place for active tourism, especially cycling, walking and canoeing. The central and the most tourist-attractive place of the region is the town of Ostróda, which makes a perfect start for visiting other towns and villages and attractions of the region.
